the Fighting Illini fell to New Mexico State, 69-74 in the Dynegy Shootout up in the United Center
* Illinois drops to 8-5 on the year and now prepares for their yearly battle against Missouri
it’s the annual “Braggin’ Rights” game in St. Louis coming up this Saturday night with a 7:00 tipoff

 

(OLNEY)  in Men’s Junior College Basketball Saturday – Olney Central College won huge on the road
the Blue Knights erased a 23-point first half deficit to post a 20-point victory at Southeastern Illinois, 96-76
* Wade Coomer led OCC with 22 points, while Davion Warren poured in 21 points
* Erikas Jakstys added 21 points, while Rashad Dixon scored 10 points off the bench
* the Blue Knights improve to 9-3 on the year and now 3-2 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
there were two other GRAC teams in non-District action on Saturday
* Wabash Valley beat Danville Area Community College, 85-78
* Rend Lake lost to John Wood Community College, 50-63

* Kayla Sanford, Kendall Falkenstein, and Nialah Ray each scored 12 points – Mallory Smith had 11
* the Lady Knights improve to 9-4 on the year and now 4-1 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference

the Lady Tigers are back in action at home tomorrow night with a huge LIC game against Paris at RCHS

 

(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Basketball Saturday – Newton won two games at home
the Lady Eagles won the varsity game over Neoga, 46-33
* for Newton – Abby Frohning had a double/double with 24 points and 18 rebounds
Newton also won the junior varsity game, 22-17
the Lady Eagles are back in action the day after Christmas next week at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament

the Lady Cubs won the 8th grade game over North Knox, Indiana, 50-32 as Olney is still unbeaten at 19-0
* Olney was led by Jocelynn VanMatre with 21 points and Anna Blank with 13 points
North Knox won the 7th grade game, 25-12
the Lady Cubs are quickly back in action tonight as they play at Vincennes Clark

the Tigers won the varsity game over Paris, 72-55 as Olney improves to 4-5 overall, now 2-1 in the LIC
* Olney was led by Brent Hatten’s double/double with 12 points and 12 rebounds
* Sutton Dunn had 16 points while Connor Zuber, Kaleb Foster, and Braden Flanagan had 12, 11, and 11
Olney also won the junior varsity game over Paris, 50-39 as the Tiger JV improves to 4-1 on the year
Olney is quickly back in action tonight as they travel to Mt. Carmel to play the Aces in Wabash County

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Hoops last night – Newton won two games at home, both in overtime
the Eagles won the varsity game over Robinson, 76-68 as Newton is now 6-3 overall, now 2-0 in the LIC
* Newton’s Collin Harris had 24 points – Nick Cohorst had a double/double with 18 points and 12 boards
* two other Eagles were in double digits – Ben Carr with 14 points and Zach Jansen with 12 points
Newton won the junior varsity game over Robinson in double overtime, 46-45

(NEWTON) in Boys High School Basketball last night-Newton lost on the road at Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony beat the Eagles 67-39. Ben Carr and Nick Cohorst led the Eagles with 8 points.

Newton is 5-3 and will host Robinson on Friday.

 

(OLNEY) in Boys Jr. High Basketball last night- Olney split a pair of games.

Centralia beat the 8th grade team 63-48, Olney is now 10-2 and 2-0 in conference.

Olney won the 7th grade game 35-32, now 8-2, 2-0. Olney at Effingham on Thursday.

 

(OLNEY) also in Boys Jr. High Basketball- Olney St. Joe lost two to cisne.

The Wildcats lost the varsity game 49-32, Evan Uhl with 8 points. Now 7-6, 5-3 in conference.

The JV squad fell to Cisne 29-26. St. Joe travels to Clay City on Thursday.

 

(NEWTON) in Boys Jr. High Basketball- Jasper County swept Lawrenceville

Jasper County won the 8th grade game 44-34, now 8-7.

Jasper County won the 7th grade game 27-24.

Next game on January 4th at Cumberland

Olney won the 8th grade game 45-17, Kenzie Weiler and Jocelynn VanMatre had 11 points each.
