NEWTON CITY COUNCIL JUNE MEETING RECAP

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council approved pre-paid bills worth $212,781 and accounts payable worth $125,353 : on a 5 to 1 vote, approved the $105,590 cost for the South Van Buren Street sidewalk project : approved the $116,905 cost for the West Jourdan Street sidewalk project : on a 5 to 1 vote, approved the $6,943 final inspection cost for the South Van Buren Street sidewalk project : approved the $9,675 final inspection cost for the Jourdan Street sidewalk project : approved the $106,646 bid for MFT Street material : approved the $23,128 bid for MFT Street seal coat stone : approved an IDOT agreement with to add accessible pedestrian signals at the two intersections – State Route 33 & Jackson Street & State Route 130 & Van Buren Street all with the City’s cost at $2,700 : approved the $7,750 cost for chemical feed pipe replacement and reinforcement work : approved the Dumpster Reimbursement Application for 604 Wilson Street worth $480 : agreed to have the City Engineer to survey the strip of land between Kennedy Drive & State Route 33 with fees paid for by West End Reception & Events : and noted that the South Van Buren water main replacement project should start within two weeks time : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council will be July 2nd.
