(SPRINGFIELD) Employees of the Illinois Department of Corrections demonstrated at more than two dozen prisons yesterday demanding safer working conditions, including those that work at the Lawrence County Correctional Center. Union members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Council 31 said that state prisons are understaffed, inmates abuse narcotics that expose staff, and violent assaults on staff are too common. The union represents more than 10,000 prison workers in Illinois.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Attorney General’s Office has released a 2024 Voter Misinformation Guide to help statewide voters identify and report election misinformation generated by artificial intelligence (AI), which is increasingly being used to create fake, but realistic content about the November election and its candidates. While the AI-generated content can include misleading videos, images, or audio, the Guide offers tips for spotting such content and more. (SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Deer Donation Program, Hunters Feeding Illinois, is returning for a third year. The program connects hunters, meat processors, and food pantries to support access to venison for Illinois residents and families. The expanded partnership covers 32 Illinois counties as hunters can donate whole harvested deer at no cost. While the program continues in the original counties of Jasper, Crawford, Clark, Cumberland, Clay, Effingham, & 10 others, some of the new counties added this year include Hamilton, White, Saline, and 13 others to the south.
