ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (02/28/2025)

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois House Gun Violence Prevention Committee continues to hear proposals involving further gun control measures in Springfield. One such plan would create a task force to investigate insurance mandates for gun owners, while another would increase fees for transferring firearms from $2 to $10 with the money generated to be used to go after those with expired or revoked FOID cards. Other proposals are expected to be introduced with all to be discussed and eventually considered later this spring.

(SPRINGFIELD) Legislation has been introduced in an effort to go after rogue towing companies in Illinois. Statewide motorists, especially those in the Chicago area, have complained about tow companies that show up at the scene of a crash and then hold the vehicles and the belongings within until exorbitant fees are paid. The new legislation would allow the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to reform the State’s Commercial Safety Towing Law and crack down on predatory towing practices. The bill has currently been assigned to the Senate Transporation Committee for consideration.
