(OLNEY/NEWTON) As a surface high pressure builds into the Midwest by this afternoon, we have some clouds this morning, but more sunshine by later today, plus a westerly wind will diminish as we near sunset this evening. With our downstate area temperatures pretty much normal for this Monday, the rest of the work week will be a different story as that high pressure will allow warmer air to move in with above normal temperatures expected tomorrow through the rest of the week. Our next chance of significant rain will be likely Thursday afternoon through Friday night, with what appears to be a dry weekend coming up throughout Illinois. Stay tuned for weather updates and more forecast details.
(NEWTON/OLNEY) While last night’s final round of rain from over the weekend was due to a line of showers and thunderstorms, most all of the strong storms stayed to our southwest and west. There were unofficial radar indicated tornadoes near Sparta, Belleville, and other areas southeast of the Metro East Area in Illinois, however these storms dissipated by the time they moved into our region. Our area average rainfall amounts ranged from one to three inches from Friday through last night and little, if any, storm damage reported.
