(SPRINGFIELD) The number of cattle on feed in America remains lower than year ago levels. The USDA reported last Friday an estimated 11.4 million head of cattle on feed as of June 1st, down 1% from a year ago, while placementes into feedlots during May totaled 1.89 million head, 8% below last year, marketings of fed cattle last month totaled 1.76 million head, down 10% from 2024 numbers. It was last Friday that the USDA mailed out the July cattle survey to around 18,000 cattle operations nationwide to provide an updated measure of the U.S. cattle inventory. Data from the survey will be released by the end of next month.
