(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation is joining state and local law enforcement agencies in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign this weekend, in effect now through Monday. According to IDOT data, 21 people died in 17 fatal crashes across the state during last year’s Independence Day weekend. Law enforcement is out in extra force this weekend looking for those driving impaired by alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs, plus for those who are speeding, for those not buckled up, for those texting while driving, and for those violating other “rules of the road” while driving throughout Illinois.
(SPRINGFIELD) During this Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation has reopened highway lanes that had been closed for construction work. IDOT says all non-emergency closures were suspended yesterday and these areas will remain open until midnight this Sunday. However, any closures related to long-term construction projects on major interstates or highways will remain in place this weekend.
(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois taxpayers who missed the April 15th deadline are reminded that it is not too late to file and minimize penalties and interest, if a balance is owed. While the deadline was almost three months ago, the Illinois Department of Revenue grants an automatic six-month extension of time to file with the deadline being October 15th.
(DU QUOIN) The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), will host a free kid’s “fishing day” on Tuesday, July 8th, at 9:00 that morning. While fishing poles, bait, and basic fishing instruction will all be provided free of charge, advance registration is required, but participation is limited to the first 25 children to sign up. While no fishing license is required for those under the age of 16, those 16 and older will need a fishing license to take part. Those signing up should bring a chair, some drinking water, and sunscreen. Learn more on the www.dnr.illinois.gov website.
