(BLOOMINGTON) Cattle on feed numbers continue to fall below year-ago levels, that’s according to last week’s USDA monthly report for March. As of April 1st, the estimated number of cattle and calves on feed in the U.S. was 11.6 million head, 2% below the same time last year. The report also showed that while placements in feedlots last month totaled 1.84 million head, up 5% from 2024, marketings were 1% above 2024, at 1.73 million head.
