(OLNEY/NEWTON) As the remnants of Hurricane Helene move northwestward towards the mid-Mississippi River Valley, our main downstate area rain-maker overnight was a strong low pressure storm system that’s spinning in place over the Ohio River Valley, just south of Illinois. This combination will give us plenty of widespread rain today, however as the two weather systems collide, the bulk of the rain will start to shift eastward, possibly giving us a reprieve from the heavy rain before sunset, and then spotty rain showers here or there for tonight and through much of tomorrow and Sunday, therefore not a total weekend wash out. This will likely result in 1 to 2 inches of rain along the I-64 corridor and around 1 inch of rain along the I-70 corridor. Another big issue will be the very gusty northeasterly winds at anywhere from 20 to 30 miles-per-hour today through tomorrow with possible gusts in excess of 40 or 50 miles-per-hour. The NWS had issued a Wind Advisory for our region0 today through Saturday morning. We’ll then dry out as we move into October next week.
