HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY SOFTBALL FROM THE WEEKEND (04/22/2024)

(NEWTON) In High School Varsity Softball from Friday –

Newton hosted a Round Robin event at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park

  • The Lady Eagles lost their first game to Freeburg, 2-1
  • Although Newton outhit the Lady Midgets, 8 to 6
  • The Lady Eagles then beat Champaign Central, 4-3
  • As Newton outhit the Lady Maroons, 8 to 7

ON THE DAY

  • Newton’s winning pitcher – Amelia Collins, striking out 6 in 7 innings
  • At the plate on the day – Bailey Frichtl doubled with a single, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored
  • Audrie Reich had 2 doubles and 1 RBI
  • Avery Mulvey had 2 doubles and 1 run scored
  • Lilly Kessler had 2 hits and 2 RBI
  • Allie Hermann had 2 hits and 1 run scored

In the other two games at Newton on Friday

  • Freeburg beat Teutopolis, 3-2
  • Champaign Central beat Teutopolis, 5-4

The (16-5/2-0) Lady Eagles are scheduled to host Olney today

(OLNEY) In High School Varsity Softball from Saturday –

  • Olney lost a tough home game to Carmi, 6-0

The Lady Tigers were outhit by the visiting Lady Dogs, 9 to 2

  • At the plate – Clara Williams had a single and a base on balls
  • Taylor Bloomer had Olney’s other hit and Rylee Bloomer drew a walk

The (10-6/2-1) Lady Tigers are scheduled to play at Newton today

There were two LIC teams in action

  • Marshall beat Salt Fork, 21-0
  • Salem beat Lawrenceville twice, 5-0 and 12-0
