ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (04/01/2025)

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Police has 32 new Troopers as Cadet Class 149 graduated late last week in Springfield. Reporting to locations throughout the state on Sunday, the Troopers completed 25 total weeks of training, including the final 14 weeks of training in the field. While 2 Troopers were assigned to Troop 9, based in Effingham & Carmi, 4 each were assigned to Troops 8 and 10, based in Collinsville & Du Quoin, plus 1 Trooper was assigned to Troop 7, based in Pesotum. 597 Troopers have joined the ISP since 2019.

(SPRINGFEILD) It was two weeks ago today that the State House Republican caucus sent a letter to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) asking for the organization to detail how its policies and protocols for administering high school sports will be amended in line with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, which prohibits biological men from competing against biological women in sports. The caucus says it is patiently awaiting a response from the IHSA on behalf of all concerned parents and students across Illinois.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the State’s Office of Homeland Security has announced $20 million in available grant funding for the second round of the Illinois Not-for-Profit Security Grant Program. The taxpayer funds will help eligible organizations, that are deemed at high-risk of a threat, attack, or acts of terrorsim, implement enhanced safety measures, mostly the installation of security equipment.

(SPARTA) Soldiers and noncommissioned officers from throughout the Illinois Army National Guard will be competing in the Best Warrior Competition this coming weekend at the Sparta Training Center in southwestern Illinois. Some of the activities include weapons events, an unknown distance run, a mystery endurance event, a high ropes confidence course, land navigation, medical tasks, and more. A road march will be the final event at 6:00 Sunday morning with an awards presentation at 11:00. It’s all open to the public.
