(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois EPA is notifying the owners and operators of twenty-one (21) Community Water Systems that there has been a detection of one or more PFAS water contaminants in the most recent sampling. PFASs are a group of several thousand human made chemicals that are manufactured for their oil and water-resistant properties. Since the 1940’s, PFASs have been used in fire-fighting foams, consumer products, and more.
(CHICAGO) Two years after Illinois and five other states secured a $462 million settlement from Juul Labs, the Illinois Attorney General’s office will donate $24 million, or 5% of the settlement, to the Truth Initiative, a statewide effort to prevent youth nicotine usage. As part of the initiative, Illinois schools will receive access to curriculum called “Vaping : Know the Truth” and the organization will also host statewide college campus events.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission has recommended a 60-day suspension for a downstate lawyer who most recently ran for Illinois Attorney General. Bond County attorney Tom DeVore, who made a name for himself challenging the COVID-19 pandemic orders, was cited for a series of infractions, including an attorney/client relationship while fighting the pandemic restrictions in 2020.
(NAPERVILLE) A bystander helped save the life of a driver whose vehicle veered off the road and into a pond in Naperville yesterday. Upon arrival on the scene, rescue personnel discovered the car partially submerged in water with the driver still inside, but with help. Authorities say a landscaper working nearby entered the water to assist the driver who was unable to swim, holder the driver’s head above water until emergency responders arrived.
