(SPRINGFIELD) Now that colder temperatures have arrived, the Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding everyone to prepare now for the upcoming respiratory virus season by getting those recommended shots for the flu, COVID-19, and RSV. While the data currently shows the overall illness level around the state remains low, health officials say they expect viral activity to increase as the holiday season and time for indoor gatherings kick into gear. (SPRINGFIELD) Prosecutors will ask the Illinois Supreme Court to review an appellate court ruling that found former Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson should be released from jail pending trial on charges related to the July 6th shooting death of Sonya Massey in Springfield. The African-American woman had called police to report a prowler outside her home. She was shot and killed by the deputy while she experienced a mental health crisis and unarmed. Grayson is charged with murder and was fired from the job.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Lottery is encouraging responsible gifting this holiday season and reminding players that lottery tickets are for grown-ups and not kids. The Illinois Lottery is once again joining forces with the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling to reintroduce its “Gift Responsibly” campaign, an effort to remind the public that lottery games are intended exclusively for adults over the age of 18.

(SPRINGFIELD) With the remaining four days of the statewide firearm deer hunting season running today through Sunday, the State DNR urges all hunters to use safety harnesses when in the woods hunting. Tree stands are the number one source of hunting-related accidents and fatalities in Illinois. While the muzzleloader-only deer hunting season is next weekend, December 13th–15th, muzzleloader permits can also be used this weekend.
