(SPRINGFIELD) As the construction season gets underway, the Illinois Comptroller’s office is issuing a reminder about the state’s prevailing wage laws, which requires fair pay to workers on publicly financed projects. It was six years ago in 2019 that an executive order was issued to allow the Comptroller’s office to stop state payments to any contractor found to be in violation of the prevailing wage laws throughout Illinois.
(CHICAGO) Dozens of former student pilots who say they racked up tens of thousands of dollars in debt for tuition are suing Chicago-based United Airlines and it’s flight school in the Arizona desert. In an amended complaint filed last week in federal court, the student pilots said their flight time was limited due to the staffing shortages and frequent staff turnover along with limited aircraft available. Some of the students ultimately left the program when it was clear they would not finish training after a year, as promised.
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Senate passed a bill yesterday on a 36 to 13 vote that, if signed by the Governor, will create a commission to study the possibility of a relocation of the Illinois/Indiana state line. The bill is an amended version of an original measure that was passed by the Indiana House back in February (69-25). The newly amended bill that passed yesterday allows the commission to issue reports even if Illinois doesn’t pass a similar bill.
(ALTON) No injuries were reported after an Amtrak train struck a vehicle early yesterday morning in Alton. Police were called after a vehicle crashed through a protective fence near an Amtrak station and became stuck on the railroad tracks, although the driver was able to get out okay. The train involved in the crash was traveling from St. Louis to Chicago.
