(BLOOMINGTON) The past growing season turned out a little better than expected for many corn growers in Illinois and it showed in the final results of the National Corn Growers Association’s annual yield contest, with many top producers from our downstate area. On the national level, Troy Uphoff of Findlay (Shelby County) won the conventional, non-irrigated class with an entry of 385.8 bushels per acre, followed by Jeremy Williams of Martinsville (Clark County) in second place at 383.8 bushels per acre. On the state level, Allen Walters of Marshall (Clark County) won the conventional, non-irrigated class with 374.7 bushels per acre. And two St. Francisville farmers (Lawrence County), Greg McClure and Cameron McClure were the top two producers in the strip, minimum, mulch, and ridge till non-irrigated class, with yields of 333.9 and 328.6 bushels per acre, respectively.
