(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation officially broke ground Wednesday on a joint project to construct a new training facility focused on traffic incident safety for law enforcement officers, first responders, and highway workers. The $14 million, taxpayer-funded facility is being built at the Illinois State Police training academy extension in Pawnee. ISP Director Brendan Kelly said the center will provide a controlled setting where officers and emergency personnel can train under conditions that closely mirror real-world traffic incidents.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Supreme Court has announced the formation of a pretrial accountability task force designed to address the increasing number of defendants on electronic monitoring and improve the state’s arrest warrant process. According to a court statement, more than 5,500 pretrial defendants are currently being monitored electronically across Illinois.
(SPRINGFIELD) An 18-year-old from Florissant, Missouri, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed a Madison, Illinois, man last week. Authorities say 38-year-old Travion Sherrod was found dead inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds on May 26 in Venice. Police arrested Jason A. McCallum at St. Louis Lambert International Airport on May 30.
