(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Health is urging consumers to be cautious about buying some lunch meats, after reporting a Listeria outbreak. The warning is tied to come lots of Daisy brand headcheese deli meat bought at multiple deli locations in Illinois and Indiana. Tests are still ongoing to determine the scale of the outbreak. (SPRINGFIELD) A new report ranks Illinois 46 out of 50 states for financial transparency, partly due to the state’s slow fiscal reporting. The Truth in Accounting’s Financial Transparency Score 2026 Report evaluates how effectively each state discloses its true financial condition through audited reports, based on pension reporting, accounting practices, and timeliness.
(SPRINGFIELD) Under a proposed Illinois Senate Bill, not-for-profit fire departments could receive new funding in the form of grants distributed by the State Fire Marshall in order to support their operations. Most common in rural communities, manned by mostly volunteers, these nonprofit fire department and/or fire districts would be able to use the new monies to rehabilitate and build new fire stations. The bill currently awaits action in the State House.
