(SPRINGFIELD) Winter wheat harvest has begun in Illinois with 1% cut as of June 15, this past Sunday, according to USDA data released yesterday. The harvest pace is behind the same week a year ago, in 2024 (46%) and the five-year average (15%). Nationwide 10% of the crop is harvested compared to 16% on average. USDA ranked the condition of the Illinois winter wheat crop 13% poor to very poor, 30% fair, 47% good, and 10% excellent. Meanwhile, corn and soybean planting is wrapping up. USDA reports 93% of corn and 87% of soybeans have emerged. Inconsistent weather conditions have prompted replanting in some areas.
