USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT FOR LAST WEEK

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork on average last week in Illinois. The statewide average temperature was 73.2 degrees last week, 1.8 degrees below normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged 1.18 inches last week, 0.28 inches above normal. As of Sunday, statewide corn silking was a 39%, compared to the 5-year average of 16% and corn in the dough stage hit 1%. The state’s corn condition was rated 10% poor to very poor, 23% fair, 52% good, and 15% excellent. Soybeans blooming was at 43%, compared to the 5-year average of 24% and soybeans setting pods are at 9%, compared to the 5-year average of 3%. The state’s bean crop condition was rated 10% poor to very poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 11% excellent. The state’s winter wheat harvested for grain hit 93% as of Sunday, compared to the 5-year average of 85%. Farmers and their workers are reminded to think “safety first” while working around the farm this summer.
