“WHAT’S HAPPENING” THIS WEEKEND

(OLNEY) The Olney VFW will have its next Queen of Hearts drawing, all open to the public, at 4:00 this Sunday afternoon. The jackpot is now up to $6,721 if the winner is present and remember, the drawing is live-streamed on the VFW Post page on Facebook. Tickets are on sale right up until draw time at 4:00 Sunday, with the VFW Post doors opening at 1:00.

(THE BEND) All are invited out this Sunday afternoon to The Bend Ice Cream Social and Bluegrass in The Bend, all to be held at St. Valentine Hall, southeast of Oblong, or across the river east, from Ste. Marie. With the Flat Mountain bluegrass band performing from 3:00 to 5:00, there will be plenty of delicious homemade ice cream all for a free will cash donation, plus pork burgers, chips, and drinks for sale, and a 50/50 raffle with tickets on sale that day. It’s rain or shine. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music, ice cream, food, and friendly company. Sponsored by The Bend Community Club. All are invited to attend.

(PARKERSBURG) The Annual Parkersburg Chowder is coming up this Saturday at the Community Building and Park in Parkersburg. The popular Tractor Display will be set up and open at 10:00 and with approximately 800 gallons to be prepared, the chowder will be served by the bowl, by carryout, or by using drive thru lane, starting at 10:30 that morning, plus there will be other food available, including pork

barbeque, salads, pies, and cakes. With lineup for the Annual Parade at 12:45 at the Christian Church, it will kick off at 1:00, led by this year’s Grand Marshalls, the children of August and Norma Jean Pampe. All proceeds go to support the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. All ages are welcome.

(NEWTON) The Newton American Legion Post 20 will host another “drive thru” event this Saturday with the food prepared by Mess-In-A-Round BBQ and serving from 10:30 in the morning until sold out. Menu includes a pulled pork sandwich with chips for $6, pulled pork nachos for $8, loaded chicken bacon ranch nachos for $10, or pulled pork by the pound for $12. (OLNEY) It’s another “Walk With A Doc” this Saturday morning at 9:00 on the Carle Trail, in the north end of the Olney City Park. All are invited to come and walk at their own pace.

(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton, with tickets on sale up until draw time, and a jackpot at $12,495. The Queen’s Menu includes a choice of chicken livers for $12, a fish sandwich for $10, or a double cheese burger for $10, each with a side and serving starts at 5:00. (NEWTON) Only two more days remain for the “book sale” at the Newton Public Library, running today and tomorrow during regular library hours. There’s children’s books, those for juniors, those with large print, along with fiction and non-fiction titles and more.
